English
Welcome
In a recent survey, our students expressed a high level of satisfaction with the English program, citing the expert personal attention from the department's dedicated instructors. We provide a sequence of composition courses designed to develop and strengthen critical thinking and writing skills that students need to succeed in their college work. We also offer a variety of elective courses in literature, creative writing, and journalism that fulfill Humanities distribution requirements and, in some cases, the Cultural Diversity requirement for the AA degree. Many of our courses are available online or as part of the Weekend College.
We offer Literature, Creative Writing, and Journalism classes as well as required Composition classes
Many students become acquainted with the English department through English 105 and 205, courses in the composition sequence that are required for the AA degree; these courses emphasize analysis, systematic critical thinking, and the writing of academic essays. In addition, however, we also offer other types of courses, such as literature, creative writing, journalism and humanities
We offer classes in a variety of formats and times
We offer a variety of class times and modes of instruction to help you create a schedule that fits your needs:
- face-to- face classes meet during the day or evening.
- Hybrid classes meet face-to face once a week (on Saturday or an evening) as well as online
- Online classes meet entirely online.
While these classes are taught in different modes, they all require similar commitments of time to complete successfully.
We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to explore some of the wide variety of classes offered within the English department and experience the personal attention and dedication of the instructors first-hand. We look forward to seeing you in our classes.
